20th century management attempts to manage performance quality within business processes
Enterprises today invest in business processes to manage performance quality and produce a process output. Results, capital utilized, and performance are mixed in a monolithic business process that is difficult to manage and change. Result quality is managed result by result across the business. Quality standards and methods to determine quality are set for quality-managed results. Result requirements are set for the qualifications of the solutions that affect quality.

Capital solutions implemented must have the qualifications needed to produce the result. Performance expectations can be set, as needed, for the utilization of a solution to produce a high-quality result. Performance in utilization of the solution must be effective to apply the qualifications to produce the planned level of quality in the result. The result must meet result standards, else it is a defective input result that is used to produce the next results in the chain. If an input result is determined to be defective, the chain is traced back to identify the defective result causing the problem. Defective results are analyzed to identify the ineffective performance of specific solutions to improve the solution qualifications or the effectiveness of performance to ensure quality in future results.
Result quality is managed through the input result, capital qualifications, and performance effectiveness
Result quality is established in the quality standards set and quality determinates established for each result that requires managed quality. Quality is managed to meet standards for each result produced, from three perspectives:
- Related result quality: The quality of the other results in the result chain or structure that impact the quality of the managed result
- Solution qualifications: The natural, acquired, or developed capability and potential to produce the quality of result
- Performance effectiveness: The effectiveness of the utilization of each capital solution qualifications to produce the result
Each solution utilized is professionally managed by performance managers, who monitor the qualifications of solutions and the effectiveness of utilization to produce quality results. Related end-results that produce the final result are included in one set-result, and can be viewed as a result value-quality chain.
Result quality is managed to correspond to result value
All quality-managed results have a level of quality planned for the value level of the result. Quality standards identify the quality level expected for each quality-managed result. Quality determinates establish the measurements required to see that standards are met. Result requirements establish the solution qualification specifications required to produce the result for the important quality-determining solutions. Performance expectations are set for the solution performance effectiveness to produce the quality-level result. Higher quality-levels must be justified by higher result value and require more stringent solution qualifications and effectiveness expectations. In a managed business, this becomes part of the business routine.
Qualified solutions are required to produce quality results
Capital managers are responsible for acquiring or developing qualified solutions to produce results and maintaining the needed level of qualifications, through capital result management. Performance managers monitor the utilization and performance effectiveness of solutions against expectations to optimize performance and handle performance problems. Result managers are responsible to utilize all capital solutions effectively to produce the quality determined for each result. Quality standards, determinates, other metrics and goals can be set to manage result quality. Performance expectations can be set to manage the level of effectiveness expected from each solution. Complete business data is captured on all capital solutions, performance in the utilization of solutions, and results produced in order to analyze and improve quality.
Business management manages capital qualifications, performance effectiveness and result quality as the routine
Capital qualifications, performance effectiveness, and result quality are managed as part of the routine for the complete business. Result quality levels and standards become infused so that personnel know what constitutes quality results. Low-quality results are prevented, and, if they are produced, the cause can be related back to a defective input results, poorly-qualified capital solutions, or ineffective capital solution performance. Business management ensures that quality is built into every result produced by acquiring, developing, and implementing qualified solutions, establishing performance expectations for the solution, providing the learning and knowledge to utilize solutions effectively, and showing the quality determinates and standards for each new result. Managed quality minimizes internal or external customer dissatisfaction, need for extra quality checking, and the costs and rework in low-quality results.
