20th century management used today does not organize and manage information capital as performance solutions to be utilized by the business. Information is organized in various information systems and records maintained by the business and by various departments and employees. Actual business data on business performance and results produced is not captured and business data that is maintained is often in unrelated information systems. If human knowledge is managed, it is often in a knowledge management system separate from the business. Facility records are scattered in the business, with the main records maintained by financial accounting. Management intelligence tends to be produced informally with some the responsibility of functions like corporate planning or management accounting. Information tends to be reported and managed as information, without a framework to support information as capital or relate information to the business.

Business data describes the entities employed by the business such as specific performance solutions, results, and enterprises. Performance solutions are capital employed by the business and include business organization and processes used, human capital as employees in personnel capital and as human capabilities, facility equipment and supplies, strategies and tactics, and information solutions. Results are the outputs produced by the business such as products, completed services, orders, payments, maintained capital, completed projects, etc. Enterprises are the related businesses such as parent, subsidiaries, projects, suppliers, partners, and customers.

Data is maintained on master business entities and business transactions, contacts, or changes involving the entities. Business data is managed for integration of other information with data or access with data. Business data management manages the main access to information and information security.

Human knowledge capital drives the business

Human knowledge capital is developed as performance solutions for three specific purposes:

  • To provide learning solutions to produce human capability capital
  • To provide knowledge solutions to help human personnel to utilize specific performance solutions
  • To provide knowledge solutions to help human personnel to produce specific results

Human knowledge capital develops human capability solutions so that the knowledge is inherent in a human capability, when a capability is required to produce a result. In other cases, it is not worthwhile to develop a capability, but is better to have knowledge delivered where humans need it to utilize a specific performance solution, such as complicated equipment, a computer system, a management intelligence report, etc. or to produce a result, such as a booked sale, a completed form, an interviewed applicant, etc. Human knowledge capital drives the business by providing the human capability to utilize performance solutions and to produce higher value-quality results. Human knowledge and other information development is built into all capital development to document and provide the knowledge to utilize new performance solutions and the knowledge to produce new or improved results.

Human knowledge capital is supported by a human capital unit, which is also responsible for human personnel and capability capital. Human knowledge support requires human development and knowledge management skills.

Facility records capital documents the business

Facility records capital is maintained to document to results produced by the business and performance solutions utilized by the business. Facility records maintain the financial and non-financial records of business transactions to record result value and other metrics, performance costs and other indicators, and capital worth, in addition to required 20th century accounting. Facility records document the business in the computer and manual records, imaging, source entry and document trails, intellectual property, archiving, and production of performance solutions from current business records.

Facility records capital is supported by a facility capital unit, which is also responsible for reusable facility equipment and consumable facility supply capital. Facility capital requires experience with the facility and record-keeping and administrative skills.

Management intelligence capital directs the business

Management information capital is management intelligence. Intelligence performance solutions are produced from two sources:
